Balloon Monkey (Orange), 2019
The originalBalloon Monkeyby Jeff Koons (2006–2013) was seven years in the making. The monkey figures prominently in Koons’s work over time, and this sculpture—made from mirror-polished stainless steel finished with transparent color coating in five unique versions (blue, magenta, orange, red and yellow)—explored the themes of pursuit of pleasure, sexuality, and innocence. Koons partnered with Bernardaud to create the porcelain Balloon Monkey (Orange), which simulates the mirror-polished stainless steel of the monumental sculpture in highly reflective orange porcelain. Producedin a limited edition of 999, each piece has the artist's signature and edition number fired onto the verso.
