Annie Leibovitz is responsible for some of the most well-known portraits of our time. From the beginnings of her career as a photojournalist forRolling Stone(while she was still a student at the San Francisco Art Institute), to her time on staff as the foremost rock music photographer atVanity Fair, and later atVogue, Leibovitz’s often copied and immediately recognizable work spans not only decades, but many of the most important faces across multiple cultural and sociopolitical figures in recent history. Drawing from over 40 years of work, this SUMO-sized book took several years for Leibovitz to develop. Just some of the many images contained within its pages are: John Lennon and Yoko Ono entwined in a last embrace, the black-and-white photograph of Richard Nixon’s helicopter lifting off from the White House lawn after he resigned as president in 1974, the formal color portrait of Queen Elizabeth II taken in a drawing room of Buckingham Palace in 2007, and some of her famous group portraits. A supplementary book contains essays by Leibovitz, Graydon Carter, Hans Ulrich Obrist, and Paul Roth. Limited to a total of 10,000 signed and numbered copies.
